World Affairs CouncilThe new motto of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia is “We create global citizens”.   This simple statement sums up the long-time engagement of Progressive Business Publications and the Council.  Every vibrant region needs to be “global” in its reach in this twenty-second century.  As acclaimed Council speaker, International journalist and award-winning author Tom Friedman says: “The world is flat”.  We appreciate how vital an informed citizenry is to the growth of our region.

Progressive Business Publications is proud to be one of the first corporate sponsors for the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, one of the world’s leading private, nonprofit, nonpartisan podiums for thought leaders.  Its reach is broad.  The Council provides its members and the greater Philadelphia community with access to influential figures in the global arena.   Through the support of individual and corporate members, the Council’s global education program enhances the education of area students who are the citizens, workforce and leaders of the future. The Council also offers opportunities to visit fascinating destinations through its unique travel program.

All in the region are invited to join the Council of for timely and informative events featuring some of the world’s most influential leaders and experts.   This unique nonprofit partner provides firsthand insight into the most critical issues of the day, while giving access to meet and interact with the people who shape our world.

Prominent past speakers for this Council have included government leaders – major players on the world stage – such as Tony Blair, Mikhail Gorbachev, Yitzhak Rabin, Margaret Thatcher, and former U.S. Presidents Nixon, Johnson, Reagan, Carter, Bush & Bush; Officials, Leaders and Advocates like General Petraeus,  Al Gore, Jeb Bush; Media personalities like Bill O’Reilly, Barbara Walters and Bob Woodward; and international commerce leaders like Steve Forbes and Ted Turner.  As a point of corporate citizenship, PBP is privileged and proud to have sponsored many of these for the Philadelphia audience.  We’re also pleased that many PBP employees have the opportunity to attend these fascinating events.

We are invested in the importance of the current Council motto, creating globally aware citizens.  We live by its former guiding phrase … In a democracy, agreement is not essential, participation is.
